New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins: Jhony Brito vs. Joe Ryan

After four series wins in a row, their third in the last two decades, the New York Yankees are set to start another four-game series against the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium. Both teams will meet each other on Thursday to play the first game.

The Yankees are 8-4 since the 2023 opening day and have beaten the San Francisco Giants, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Cleveland Guardians. Their offense has a good start so far with Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton leading from the front and Gleyber Torres and Franchy Cordero emerging as big hitters.

While Torres has been a revelation this season, Cordero is hitting homers and RBIs at a faster pace than anyone on the team. The Yankees fans expect another firework-filled offensive display at home.

Overall, Minnesota has a record of 8-4, and they are 4-2 when playing away from home. The overall earned run average of the Twins’ pitching staff is 2.50, which places them in second place in the AL.

This matchup between these two teams will take place for the very first time this season on Thursday. In their last 10 games, the Yankees went 7-3, hit.000, had a 2.56 ERA, and beat their opponents by 25 runs.

Yankees to start with Jhony Brito

If any pitcher is currently drawing attention in the MLb, it is Yankees two-game-old starter Jhony Brito. The Yankees selected 25-year-old right-hander Brito to fill in for injured Luis Severino and start Game 3 against the Giants at Yankee Stadium on April 2, 2023. Fans had mixed feelings about the choice since many of them probably had never heard of the young pitcher before the Yankees put him in line to be an MLB starter. But, in his first big-league start, the lanky Dominican looked right at home. Jhony Brito struck out six batters over five scoreless innings and helped the Yankees beat the Giants 6-0 in front of more than 47,000 people. On a day when the Yankees were short on relievers, Brito’s strong debut was momentous.

Jhony Brito is the Yankees' starter against the Orioles on April 8, 2023.

In his second game, Brito allowed just one run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five innings against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday despite having trouble controlling his fastball for the majority of the game. In his first two major league starts, the righty has gone five or more innings both times while allowing one run or fewer and three hits or fewer. The expectations are high for another excellent performance by him for the Yankees.

Yankees Injured List: DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, Jonathan Loaisiga, Tommy Kahnle, Josh Donaldson, Frankie Montas, Lou Trivino, Harrison Bader, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, Luis Gil, Scott Effross, Ben Rortvedt.
