2:34 p.m.

The first pitch is scheduled to take place at 3:20 in the afternoon.

1 p.m.

A rain delay has been officially declared. The Yankees have not yet determined the time of the first pitch.

NEW YORK — A tarp that goes up early is never a good sign.

At Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon, before the game between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays, there was a tarp on the field for more than an hour before the game.

And it didn’t look like it was going to be a good day.

I have no idea, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said about if they’ll play. I’m seeing the same thing. I know they’re having another meeting, I think, again as we speak. I think 11:30 a.m. was the next time. This morning, I had a pretty good forecast, and then it seems like it’s getting a little bit worse. We’ll see what we’ve got.

From the National Weather Service:

This Afternoon

Showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 76. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tonight

Showers. Low around 68. East wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

When further information becomes available, we will post an update here.

From the Yankees’ pregame notes:

ALL RISE: OF Aaron Judge has reached base at least three times in a career-high seven straight games (previous: 5G from 8/7-12/22 and 6/25-29/17)…is the longest such streak by a Yankee since Mickey Mantle’s seven game streak from 6/10-16/57…is just the seventh Yankee (ninth time) to reach base at least three times in at least seven straight games, joining Lou Gehrig (9G in 1937 and 7G in 1936), Babe Ruth (8G in 1920 and 7G in 1921), Mickey Mantle (7G in 1957), Frank Crosetti (7G in 1939), Joe DiMaggio (7G in 1939) and Tommy Henrich (7G in 1938)…over that span, is hitting .520/.636/1.000 (13-for-25) with 7R, 3 doubles, 3HR, 6RBI, 8BB/4IBB and 1SB.

  • Owns a 12-game on-base streak…has reached base multiple times in 11 of those 12 games, batting .475/.604/1.000 (19-for-40) with 11R, 3 doubles, 6HR, 11RBI, 13BB/6IBB and 2SB in that span.
  • Has reached base at least three times in a Major League-best 41 games this season and has also reached base at least twice in a Major League-best 82 games this year.
  • Has multiple hits in each of his last 3G and six of his last 8G.
  • Is just the second Yankee and the fifth Major League player (sixth time) to hit at least 55 home runs through his club’s first 140 games of a season…joins Barry Bonds (59HR in 2001 with SFG), Sammy Sosa (59HR in 1999 and 56HR in 1998 with CHC), Mark McGwire (59HR in 1998 with STL) and Babe Ruth (56HR in 1921 with NYY)…through 141 team games, Barry Bonds had 60HR in 2001, Sammy Sosa had 59HR in 1999 and 57HR in 1998, Mark McGwire had 59HR in 1998, Ryan Howard had 56HR in 2006, Babe Ruth had 56HR in 1921 and Roger Maris had 55HR in 1961.
