With top ace Gerrit Cole leading from the front, newly signed Carlos Rodon to second him, and reliable, fan-favorite Nestor Cortes putting his best, the New York Yankees remain on the top team of the MLB’s rotation table. MLB insider Sarah Langs, who specializes in baseball analytics, thinks that Cole and Rodon could even propel the Yankees to a historic height in 2023.

MLB Steamer projects that Cole will strike out 249 batters and Rodon will strike out 234 batters. Langs says that since 1900, only 15 teams have had more than one pitcher with more than 230 strikeouts in a single season. She also claims that the Yankees have never done it, but Cole has been on two of the 15 teams that have had it.

In 2018 and 2019, both Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander struck out at least 230 batters while playing for the Astros. The Bronx diehards see their top-earning starting pitcher has a chance to do it again with the help of Carlos Rodon.

During MLB free agency, the Yankees acquired Rodon for 6 years, $162 million. During the 2022 season, he pitched for the Giants in San Francisco and got 237 batters to strike out.

Cole is known as a true strikeout artist because he has struck out at least 230 batters in 4 different seasons. In 2022, he played for the Yankees and had 257 strikeouts.

In October last year, Langs was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a disease that baseball fans know as “Lou Gehrig Disease.” It progressively impacts the muscles degenerating them. Despite her diagnosis, she continues to put all her focus on baseball.
