New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger says he won’t be eating chicken wings again anytime soon after a suspected case of food poisoning forced him out of Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

“I will not eat wings for five years,” Bellinger told reporters before Wednesday’s series finale. The decision comes after a rough night at the team hotel, where Bellinger ordered wings from room service while watching the NCAA men’s basketball championship on Monday.

However, the statement is particularly interesting given that last Tuesday, Cody Bellinger joked he was ready for a second round in the wings saga.

Cody Bellinger shared that he felt sick shortly after eating and spent much of the night dealing with stomach issues. Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed the illness began following the team’s series-opening loss and lingered into Tuesday, when Bellinger was scratched from the lineup.

His absence was felt in a 5-0 loss where the Yankees managed just two hits. Though he returned to action on Wednesday, batting third in a 4-3 win that helped New York avoid a sweep, Bellinger went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Speaking to Yahoo, Cody Bellinger didn’t mince words. “I will not eat wings for five years,” he said with a smirk, clearly still recovering from the experience.

The reaction has prompted plenty of jokes — not just about the food itself, but Bellinger’s decision to rely on hotel room service for something as temperamental as chicken wings.

“Wings from hotel room service? That’s a bold move,” one reporter noted after the game. “Especially in Detroit, where you could probably find a solid wing joint a few blocks away.”

A lesson learned

Cody Bellinger, who was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in December, is still adjusting to life in pinstripes. He entered Wednesday’s game hitting .233 with one home run, and the Yankees are hoping he can begin to find consistency as the season progresses.

Despite the quiet return at the plate, his presence behind reigning MVP Aaron Judge in the order remains crucial. For those keeping tabs on sports betting, Bellinger’s bounce-back potential still makes him an intriguing pick in home run or total bases props.

But one thing is for sure: you won’t find him near the wings table at the next Super Bowl party.

“I just wanted to chill, watch the game and grab something easy,” Cody Bellinger said. “But yeah, lesson learned. No more wings.”

With the food poisoning scare behind him, Bellinger is back in the mix as the Yankees continue their road trip. The team will need contributions from him moving forward, especially with tight divisional matchups on the horizon.

As for food? It’s safe to say his next meal will be chosen a little more carefully.
