New York Yankees 0-5 Detroit Tigers
The New York Yankees were shut out for the second straight game and lost their third in four days, falling 5-0 to the Tigers on Tuesday night at Comerica Park. New York’s ongoing issues against left-handed pitching remained a glaring problem, with Tarik Skubal dominating through six scoreless innings before Brant Hurter closed the door with three of his own.
Yankees fall flat again as Tigers complete 5-0 shutout

Carlos Carrasco delivered a clean opening frame, but trouble began in the second inning when Spencer Torkelson led off with a double. Colt Keith followed with a single to put runners at the corners, and Zach McKinstry brought in the game’s first run with a sacrifice fly. Dylan Dingler, starting behind the plate, added a single to extend the threat, but a double play helped Carrasco limit the damage to one run.
After a quiet third, Carrasco ran into major trouble in the fourth. Torkelson opened the inning by drilling a hanging slider 404 feet to center field. Two batters later, McKinstry crushed a sinker to right-center, and on the very next at-bat, Dingler sent a sinker 377 feet into the left-field bullpen. The three-homer outburst gave Detroit a 4-0 lead and marked the Tigers’ first three-homer inning since 2020.
Carrasco returned for the fifth but was pulled after recording one out. Ryan Yarbrough entered and quickly gave up another home run, a solo shot by Kerry Carpenter on just his third pitch. Carrasco finished with four earned runs allowed over 4.1 innings, giving up six hits, walking one, and striking out three. He has now allowed four home runs across his first 11.2 innings as a Yankee and owns a 7.71 ERA.
On the other side, the Yankees had early chances but could not capitalize. Paul Goldschmidt and Ben Rice led off the game with back-to-back singles, but Aaron Judge struck out, Jazz Chisholm Jr. tapped a weak grounder back to the mound, and Anthony Volpe went down swinging to end the threat.
Skubal settled in from there and retired 16 consecutive Yankees before Goldschmidt and Judge reached again with singles in the sixth. Once again, the Yankees came up empty as Chisholm popped out to the infield. Skubal exited after six innings, having allowed four hits, no walks, and six strikeouts over 87 pitches.
Hurter took over in the seventh and was equally efficient, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three over the final three innings to record the save. The Yankees managed just six hits in total, with Goldschmidt and Judge combining for five of them. The rest of the lineup continued to struggle, particularly against left-handed arms.
