NEW YORK — Aaron Judge spent Sunday in an unfamiliar position. Instead of standing inside Yankee Stadium with a bat in his hands, the Yankees captain joined the crowd lining a Manhattan street, watching another athlete chase a finish line.
It was a different kind of New York sporting occasion, one without a ninth-inning rally or a clubhouse celebration. Thousands of runners filled the city streets, and Judge was part of the crowd cheering them forward.
The scene offered a rare public glimpse into the family life of one of baseball’s most recognizable players. Judge wore Yankees gear as spectators watched a race stretching through all five boroughs and ending in Central Park.
Judge’s offseason began under unusual circumstances after injuries limited his 2026 season and kept him out of the Yankees’ postseason games. On Sunday, however, baseball was not the occasion bringing the family into the spotlight.
Samantha Judge delivers another marathon finish
Judge was supporting his wife, Samantha, in the New York City Marathon on Nov. 1. Their daughter, Nora, joined him along the course, turning an individual endurance test into a family moment that quickly circulated on social media.
At the corner of East 88th Street and First Avenue, Judge held the couple’s daughter while waiting for Samantha to pass. Video showed him waving toward the runners and pointing Samantha out to Nora. When the runner reached her family, she stopped briefly to greet them.
The Yankees captain used his phone to photograph Samantha with their daughter. Later images showed the three together near the finish. Samantha completed the race in an unofficial time of 3 hours, 29 minutes, 44 seconds.
The finish followed earlier New York City Marathon appearances in 2022, 2023 and 2025. For Samantha, Sunday was another completed race on a demanding course, not merely a celebrity appearance. For Judge, it was a chance to support his wife in front of the same city that follows his baseball career.
A family tradition predates the Yankees spotlight
Judge and Samantha knew each other long before his rise to prominence with the Yankees. They met as teenagers, both attended Fresno State and married in 2021. Their daughter Nora was born in January 2025.
Samantha has generally maintained a more private profile while Judge has become the face of the Yankees. Her marathon participation, however, has become a visible part of the family’s annual calendar. Judge also attended previous editions of the race to cheer for her.
That history gives Sunday’s images more context. This was not the first time Judge watched Samantha compete in New York. It was a repeat family tradition with a new participant in Nora, whose presence produced the most widely shared moment of the day.
Numbers behind a different kind of New York performance
Samantha’s unofficial finish translates to an average pace of roughly 4 minutes, 58 seconds per kilometer across the standard 42.195-kilometer marathon distance. The calculation underscores the athletic performance behind the family photograph, especially after a brief pause to greet Judge and Nora.
For perspective, a finish under three and a half hours requires sustaining that pace for more than 42 kilometers. Those numbers offer a more complete view of Samantha’s achievement than the sideline video alone.
Judge’s offseason takes shape after injury-hit campaign
The appearance also came at the beginning of a consequential offseason for the Yankees captain. Judge played only 66 regular-season games in 2026, hitting 18 home runs and driving in 41 runs. A stress fracture in his right rib and a subsequent right calf strain interrupted his season, and he did not play in the postseason.
His absence was felt as the Yankees’ 2026 campaign ended in the American League Division Series. The organization now faces roster questions with an eye toward 2027, while Judge continues his recovery and prepares for another season.
Sunday provided a different kind of New York headline. Samantha completed the marathon, Nora watched from the course, and the Yankees captain became a proud spectator for a few hours.
