Some fans at Yankee Stadium, including those who remained after a lengthy rain delay, chanted at manager Aaron Boone after Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman allowed a 3-run double in the top of the 10th inning on Wednesday.

“Fire Boone” began to be shouted over and over behind home plate in the Bronx.

At the time, Francisco Meja’s double was the game-winner for the Rays. It quieted the crowd and made the chants even easier to hear.

Following that low point, the Yankees went on to secure a dramatic comeback victory in the next half inning. Josh Donaldson hit a walk-off grand slam to right field to send the crowd home happy. Nonetheless, those chants resonated, spreading on social media before Boone’s pregame press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Boone then talked for a few minutes about the chants that were made about him and other players in pinstripes. Even though they have a big lead in their division and had a great first half, the Yankees have heard a lot of boos this season. The recent struggles of the team since the trade deadline and the All-Star break haven’t helped the situation, as some dissatisfied fans in the Bronx have criticized some of the team’s underperforming players.

Boone gave a direct response when he was asked why he stood up taller in the dugout when fans were calling for his dismissal, regardless of whether or not they should have done so.
