On Monday, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office released a statement regarding the death of Rachel Minaya, wife of Yankees executive Omar Minaya. According to the press release, Rachel Minaya, 55, was found unconscious and unresponsive in the bathroom of their Harrington Park, New Jersey home on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at approximately 3:32 p.m.

The Harrington Park Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call and first responders attempted to resuscitate the 55-year-old at the scene. Rachel was then transported to Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood, NJ, where she was pronounced deceased at 4:26 p.m.

Authorities have stated that while they do not suspect any criminality at this time, the Bergen County prosecutor’s office is conducting an investigation. The circumstances surrounding her death do not appear suspicious, but a ruling on the cause and manner of death is still pending.

The PR reads:

On Saturday, July 20, 2024, at approximately 3:32 p.m., the Harrington Park Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting an unconscious and unresponsive adult female discovered in the bathroom of a private residence. Rachel Minaya was transported via ambulance to Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood, NJ but pronounced deceased at 4:26 p.m. The circumstances involved do not appear suspicious, however a ruling on the cause and manner of death is pending. Omar Minaya, 65, who currently holds a front office role with the Yankees, was not present at their Harrington Park home when his wife was found unconscious.

The Yankees organization expressed their condolences, stating that the Minaya family is considered an extension of the baseball family and that this loss is deeply felt throughout the organization. Omar Minaya currently serves as a senior advisor in the Yankees baseball operations department.

Rachel and Omar have two sons, Justin and Teddy. Justin is currently on a two-way contract with the Portland Trailblazers, playing small forward for their G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix.

Omar Minaya joined the Yankees in January 2023 as a senior advisor to baseball operations. His career in baseball management includes serving as the Mets general manager from 2004 to 2010, and later returning to the team as a special assistant from 2017 to 2020.

The authorities have stated that they will release more information as it becomes available, but are not disclosing any further details while the investigation is ongoing.
