On Monday evening, Juan Soto marked an incredible milestone by hitting his 25th home run of the season, propelling the Yankees to a commanding 9-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Soto’s stellar performance, which included two home runs, drew high praise from teammate Carlos Rodón, who lauded him as “a great hitter, a great player.”
Juan Soto showcased his offensive prowess by smashing two of the Yankees’ five home runs, leading New York to a decisive 9-1 win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. This triumph allowed the Yankees to split their four-game series with Tampa Bay.
Juan Soto‘s performance was particularly notable, marking his fourth multi-homer game of the season and the 21st of his career. This achievement ties him with Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews for the second-most multi-homer games by a player aged 25 or younger. Soto’s 25 home runs this season have been a crucial element of the Yankees’ offensive strategy. His two blasts included a solo shot into the third deck in the seventh inning and a three-run homer in the eighth.
Juan Soto’s perspective and Rodon’s Praise
Reflecting on his performance, Juan Soto said, “I’m just trying to make sure it was a fair ball. I was literally pulling with everything that I have to stay fair. It was fun to see it and I definitely got a hold of it.”
Juan Soto’s contribution extended beyond this game, as he went 11 for 18 in the series, including a four-hit game on Friday. New York starter Carlos Rodon commended Soto’s hitting capabilities, noting the range of his home runs:
“That first one was really far and then the second one was really hard and lot. Just a great hitter, a great player.”
Team effort and offensive explosion
Juan Soto’s exceptional performance was the highlight of a game where the Yankees‘ offense was firing on all cylinders. Contributions from DJ LeMahieu, Austin Wells, and Anthony Volpe, who also homered, helped the Yankees match their season high by hitting five homers in a game for the second time this season.
The Yankees’ offense set the tone early, with LeMahieu hitting a solo homer in the first inning. Wells added another solo shot in the fourth inning, and Volpe contributed a two-run blast in the sixth. Soto’s seventh-inning solo home run further extended the lead, and his three-run homer in the eighth inning sealed the dominant victory.
On the mound, Carlos Rodon delivered a strong performance, allowing just one run over seven innings while striking out nine. His effective pitching, combined with the Yankees’ offensive firepower, left the Rays struggling to keep pace.
