Oswald Peraza’s persistent shoulder issue has resurfaced, raising concerns for the Yankees about the extent of his injury. According to Aaron Boone, Peraza experienced renewed discomfort in his shoulder following his participation in games on Tuesday and Wednesday, as stated by NY Post. The infielder, slated for imaging tests, departed Steinbrenner Field midday Thursday while his teammates prepared for a workout and an evening matchup against the Tigers.

Injury concerns mount: Oswald Peraza’s shoulder woes put Yankees on alert

According to Max Goodman, the manager of the New York Yankees, Aaron Boone disclosed that Oswald Peraza approached him Thursday morning, acknowledging the recurrence of shoulder discomfort.

Although Aaron Boone downplayed the severity of the injury, Oswald Peraza’s absence from February 25 until his recent return indicates ongoing challenges. During his brief return, Peraza, 23, played at second base and shortstop but reportedly felt hindered in throwing across the diamond during Tuesday’s game.

The decision to undergo imaging underscores the seriousness of Oswald Peraza’s condition, a concern amplified by the lack of response from Brian Cashman regarding his status. Despite his talent, Peraza’s uncertain health status complicates his bid for a roster spot. The Yankees have suggested that Peraza might benefit from consistent playing time in Triple-A rather than serving as a sporadic utility infielder at the major league level.

While Oswald Peraza grapples with his injury, the team explores alternative options. Oswaldo Cabrera emerges as a potential backup infielder, while Kevin Smith remains in contention for a roster spot as a non-roster invitee. However, any setback for Peraza, regardless of its magnitude, diminishes his chances of securing a spot on the Yankees’ roster for the upcoming season.

It’s very simple, he is hurt. There is nothing to discuss here, except put him on the IL right now and take your time figuring out what’s really wrong with him and whether he makes the club is irrelevant. But I don’t trust this Yankees medical staff to diagnose him or come up with a proper rehab plan.
