Former Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano will take the field for the Dominican Republic in Friday’s Caribbean Series championship game against Mexico.
Former Yankees star Robinson Cano to play for Caribbean Series title

Cano, representing the Escogido Baseball Club, helped his squad secure the Dominican Winter League title to earn a spot in the tournament. The team advanced to the final after defeating Venezuela in the semifinals. First pitch is set for 10:00 p.m. ET.
The Dominican Republic’s roster features several former MLB players, including ex-Mariners Jose Marmalejos, Phillips Valdez, and Alex Colome.

Cano, now 41, spent his first nine MLB seasons with the Yankees, making five All-Star appearances and winning a World Series title in 2009. He hit .309 with 204 home runs in pinstripes before signing a 10-year, $240 million deal with the Mariners ahead of the 2014 season.
Though he remained productive in Seattle, Cano’s tenure was marred by an 80-game suspension for PED use in 2018. He was traded to the Mets that offseason in a deal that sent prospect Jarred Kelenic to Seattle.
Since leaving New York, Cano has bounced around professional leagues worldwide. He was named the 2024 Mexican League MVP and recently confirmed plans to play in Mexico again this summer.
