Luis Gil is still several weeks away from taking the mound again, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday. The right-hander, who began his rehab in late April, is now about two to three weeks from mound work, pushing his earliest possible return to July.
Luis Gil’s return pushed to July, Yankees say

Luis Gil, 26, had initially been projected to return to the rotation by late June after a seven-week shutdown due to a high-grade lat strain. However, Boone’s latest update suggests the Yankees will take a more cautious approach.
The reigning American League Rookie of the Year resumed throwing at the end of April after an MRI in mid-month showed he needed more recovery time. His buildup includes bullpen sessions, live batting practice, and rehab starts—steps that typically require six to eight weeks.
Luis Gil’s return could provide a vital lift to a Yankees rotation currently stretched thin. Gerrit Cole remains out following Tommy John surgery, and Marcus Stroman has dealt with knee discomfort. In their absence, the Yankees have leaned on rookie Will Warren as increased bullpen usage.
Luis Gil went 15–7 with a 3.50 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 151 2/3 innings last season, earning him Rookie of the Year honors and a prominent role in the rotation.
