New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided key updates on the team’s roster during his January 28 appearance on Brandon Tierney & Sal Licata’s show on WFAN 660 Sports Radio. Boone addressed positional plans for players like Jazz Chisholm Jr., Jasson Dominguez, and DJ LeMahieu, offering insight into the Yankees’ strategy heading into the 2025 season.

Boone confirmed that Jazz Chisholm Jr. will shift to his natural position at second base, while DJ LeMahieu, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Oswald Peraza will compete for the starting third-base role. “Right now, we’re looking at DJ, Oswaldo, and Peraza as guys who will compete at third base,” Boone explained. “Jazz is set at second—his natural position—and that stability there is something we’re excited about heading into camp.”

The Yankees’ manager also clarified his vision for the outfield, confirming that Cody Bellinger will primarily play center field, with Jasson Dominguez stationed in left. “Cody gives us flexibility,” Boone said. “We can move him around as needed, but for Jasson, we’re looking to keep him in one spot and let him settle into left field. That consistency will help his development.”

Boone didn’t stop there. He also mentioned young outfielder Everson Pereira as another option to factor into the outfield mix, noting, “Everson is healthy now, and we’re expecting him to compete for playing time as well.”

Additionally, Boone touched on lineup dynamics, specifically discussing leadoff options. “Jazz and Jasson are guys we’re considering for the leadoff spot, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be one guy,” Boone remarked. This flexibility suggests Boone plans to tailor his lineup based on matchups, rather than committing to a single leadoff hitter.

Boone’s remarks highlight the Yankees’ confidence in their current roster, particularly in the infield. While notable free agents like Alex Bregman remain available, the Yankees appear content with relying on internal competition to solidify their lineup.

As the Yankees prepare for spring training, Boone’s comments offer a clearer picture of how the team plans to approach the 2025 season. With key roles taking shape and an emphasis on player versatility, the Yankees are banking on a mix of established stars and promising young talent to lead them forward.
