Yankees starter Nestor Cortes is getting closer to making his comeback to the mound. The team is optimistic that a cortisone injection has effectively addressed his shoulder problem and provided the necessary relief.

The Yankees’ left-handed pitcher is scheduled to participate in a bullpen session either on Friday or Saturday in St. Louis. This will mark his first bullpen session since he was sidelined in early June due to a rotator cuff strain.

After a light day of throwing, Cortes stated on Tuesday that he felt everything was in a really good condition and that he believed he had almost reached the point where he transitioned from feeling average to feeling fantastic.

Cortes has gradually increased the distance of his throws to 105 feet and plans to further increase his workload during the current week before eventually transitioning to pitching from the mound. If his progress continues as expected, there is a possibility that he may be ready to rejoin the Yankees’ roster sometime in the middle of July.

Nestor Cortes is pitching against the Phillies at Yankee Stadium, April 3, 2023.

The Yankees starter mentioned that after receiving the cortisone shot, there was a brief waiting period before he could resume throwing. He described his initial feelings as a mix of caution and uncertainty regarding whether the pain would persist or subside. However, after a day of rest, Cortes noticed that his arm was no longer sore. Although his throws and workload were not extensive, he experienced significant improvement once he began consecutive days of throwing.

Rodon to make his Yankees debut on July 7

Carlos Rodon is scheduled to have his third rehab start on Saturday, although the specific affiliate where he will pitch is yet to be determined. If everything goes as expected during this outing, the left-handed pitcher would be on track to make his debut for the Yankees on July 7 against the Cubs at Yankee Stadium.

Ian Hamilton to return on Wednesday

It is anticipated that Ian Hamilton will be taken off the injured list on Wednesday following his recovery from a groin strain sustained in May.

To make room on the roster, the Yankees are considering sending Jhony Brito down to the minors. Brito started on Tuesday and gave up two earned runs in 5 ²/₃ innings. They plan to temporarily fill his spot in the rotation on Sunday with Randy Vasquez before Carlos Rodon is expected to make his return.

  1. All that being said, you can Bring back Pettite, Gator and Mo, if the offense doesn’t pick up, it’s nothing

  2. It’s Boone. Who makes a lineup with the same 4 veterans who are not hitting at the top of the lineup every game. Only 2 can be used at a time and they should be batting seventh or eight. 4 instant outs every inning with them batting in top 5 spots. He refuses to move them down. Using Stanton as DH is wrong because you can’t pinch hit for him or you lose DH position. Need new hitting coach. Also what team hits into so many double plays. Almost every time a player gets a base hit the next hitter or hitter after bats him off. It almost looks like the job is to knock off the hitter on first base. If you can’t you should be sitting in on bench. Yankee games are very hard to watch lately.
    .

  3. Absolutely knew when they gave judge that ridiculous contract he would never play like that again. They’re all the same they get the huge contracts and every little broken nail puts them out of the game. They really are all wimps and don’t care about the game or fans shame on steinbrenner for throwing all that money away. Cashman is worthless and wouldn’t know talent if it hit him in the face

    1. You really can’t blame Judge, because that was a hell of a catch. A torn ligament in the toe isn’t exactly a broken nail. Now for the rest of the team, blame Cashman. He brought Donaldson and the others that can’t hit to team.

  4. Cashman and Levine have ruined the Yankees reputation !!! . Along w Aarone Boone becoming 1 of the Yankees worst manager in decades !!!.
Joe Girardi was a good manager and treated the fans w respect .
I got to know Joe by talking to him at the spring training games at ESPN Wide World of Sports playing against the Braves . He was very nice to my daughter and other Kids . But most important….His players and coaches showed alot of respect toward him!!!. Wake Up Hal !!!. Haven’t U learned anything from ur Father !!!. When God made George Steinbrenner , he broke the Mold !!!. Enough Said !!!.

  5. I told yankees fans Judge will be hurt after signing that big contract…lol Judge needs to go ..why are yankees fans glamorize by homeruns…yankees are not the yankees anymore they should be called stinkees..lol yankees will never win a world series as long as they have all them homerun hitters

  6. I disagree with most of whats commented. JD is a disappointment, but he is also in great physical shape, like a 30 yr. old, and capable of dsaving his season, and his glove is very good. No wimps here bathing in their millions. Baseball has surpassed Hollywood yet actirs get paid per performance. Sportstars close longterm contracts, and that is insane.
