New York Yankees fans were quick to express their frustration with general manager Brian Cashman after his recent decision to stick with Alex Verdugo over top prospect Jasson Dominguez. While the Yankees secured a 3-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday, attention shifted to Cashman’s choice to keep Verdugo in left field, sparking a wave of backlash online.
Yankees fans slam Brian Cashman for backing Verdugo over Jasson Dominguez

During the game, Alex Verdugo went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout, but fans weren’t impressed. Instead, many took the opportunity to criticize Cashman, questioning why he continues to back Verdugo instead of promoting Dominguez, who has been putting up impressive numbers in Triple-A.

Cashman blatantly lying to the media and saying Verdugo gives us a better chance to win then Dominguez is a fireable offense

His stubborn approach and arrogance wanting to win HIS way has gotten so bad and he can NEVER admit when he’s wrong
Cashman addressed the situation ahead of the series, stating that Verdugo gives the Yankees the best chance to win right now.
“If [Jassonn Dominguez] comes to the big leagues, he’s got to play every day,” Cashman explained, suggesting that the organization isn’t ready to make that commitment just yet. SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino also noted that promoting Dominguez could be a risky move, as the team can’t afford to go back once they make that decision.
Jasson Dominguez, who is hitting .313/.371/.497 with seven home runs, 24 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases in 41 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, has generated plenty of excitement among fans. However, Cashman emphasized the importance of caution, pointing out that if Dominguez struggles at the major league level, it could leave the Yankees vulnerable heading into the postseason.
Jasson Dominguez, 21, missed the beginning of the season due to Tommy John surgery but has made a strong recovery. Before the injury, he played eight games for the Yankees in September 2023, posting a .980 OPS with four home runs. While he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his lone appearance for the Yankees this year, many fans are eager to see him return to the big leagues.
Meanwhile, Verdugo’s first season with the Yankees has been less than stellar. The 28-year-old outfielder, acquired from the Boston Red Sox in an offseason trade, is hitting just .235 with a .652 OPS over 134 games, marking the worst season of his career. Verdugo, a free agent at the end of the year, has a career .745 OPS across eight seasons.
Despite these struggles, Cashman remains confident in Verdugo’s ability to help the team down the stretch. However, fans aren’t as convinced, with many calling for Dominguez to be given a chance to make an impact in the Yankees’ lineup as the postseason approaches.
