New York Yankees 3-0 Chicago Cubs
Luis Gil threw six scoreless innings in a dominant return from the injured list, leading the New York Yankees to a 3-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Friday. The Yankees took control in the third inning, and their pitching kept the Cubs’ offense quiet for the rest of the game.

New York’s scoring came early, beginning when Gleyber Torres drew a leadoff walk in the top of the third. After Juan Soto singled, Aaron Judge delivered with an RBI double down the left-field line, scoring Torres and putting Soto on third. Austin Wells followed up with a sharp single to left-center, bringing home both Soto and Judge to put the Yankees up 3-0.
Cubs starter Jordan Wicks struggled in the third, walking four batters and allowing five hits over five innings. Despite those early troubles, Wicks settled down after the Yankees’ three-run inning and kept them scoreless for the remainder of his outing.
The Cubs couldn’t generate much against Gil, who allowed just one hit—a double by Cody Bellinger in the fourth inning. He struck out seven batters while walking two, and Chicago’s offense failed to capitalize on their few opportunities.
The Yankees’ bullpen closed the game effectively, with Jake Cousins and Tommy Kahnle each pitching a scoreless inning before Luke Weaver took the mound in the ninth. Weaver earned his first career save, working around a two-out walk to Cody Bellinger by striking out Isaac Paredes to end the game.
With the victory, the Yankees improved to 81-60, staying in the race for the AL East lead. The Cubs dropped to 72-69, dealing a blow to their Wild Card chances in the National League.
