New York Yankees 2-9 Colorado Rockies
The New York Yankees suffered a 9-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Saturday, as rookie starter Will Warren struggled at Yankee Stadium during the team’s annual Old-Timers’ Day celebration.
Yankees fall to Rockies on Old-Timers’ day
Will Warren, called up earlier this week by the Yankees to replace the injured Luis Gil, struggled on the mound, allowing six runs—five earned—on seven hits over just three innings. The 25-year-old right-hander’s outing unraveled in the third inning, where he balked twice, leading to four runs scored by the Rockies. This rough performance dropped Warren’s record to 0-2 through four career MLB starts and inflated his ERA to 9.68.
Offensively, the Yankees couldn’t generate much against Rockies rookie Bradley Blalock, who limited them to two runs over 5.1 innings despite issuing four walks. Alex Verdugo provided a brief spark for the Yankees with a solo home run in the fourth inning, his first since July 6, but the team couldn’t mount a significant comeback.
Aaron Judge, who remains on pace for 61 home runs this season, failed to go deep for the first time in five games. The Yankees’ loss dampened an otherwise celebratory day at Yankee Stadium, where a pregame ceremony honored the 2009 World Series championship team. Yankees legends Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Mariano Rivera were among those in attendance.
