New York Yankees 5-17 Baltimore Orioles
The New York Yankees dropped the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles in a lopsided 17-5 defeat on Thursday night.
Despite the loss, the Yankees continue to lead the American League standings with a record of 51-26, just ahead of the Orioles, who improved to 49-25.
How it happened

Rookie sensation Luis Gil took the mound for the Yankees, but struggled significantly. His first pitch, a 96 mph fastball, was hit for a leadoff double by Gunnar Henderson, setting the tone for a rough outing. Gil was unable to escape the second inning, giving up six runs and pushing his ERA from 2.03 to 2.77.
The Yankees‘ bullpen, already taxed from a 10-inning game the night before, had to cover 7.2 innings and didn’t fare much better. They surrendered nine runs (six earned) on 10 hits and four walks. Even catcher Jose Trevino was called upon to pitch the ninth inning, allowing one run. Newly signed reliever Tim Hill struggled in his debut, giving up three unearned runs on a home run by Anthony Santander.
Defensive miscues added to the Yankees’ woes, with the team committing three errors. Gleyber Torres exited the game due to groin tightness, adding to the Yankees’ injury concerns.
Aaron Judge provided a highlight for New York, going 2-for-3 with a home run in his return to the lineup. However, his efforts were overshadowed by the Orioles’ offensive onslaught, which included 19 hits. Gunnar Henderson had a standout performance, reaching base four times with three hits and two doubles.
