On Thursday night, Gleyber Torres left the Yankees’ series finale against the Orioles due to right groin tightness. The second baseman exited the game in the sixth inning. Earlier, Torres hit a solo home run in the second inning and made his 11th error of the season in the fifth.

What lies ahead for Gleyber Torres?

This season has been tough for Gleyber Torres both offensively and defensively. He is batting .221 with a .641 OPS, and has seven home runs and 28 RBIs. Notably, he leads all second basemen in errors. After Torres departed, Oswaldo Cabrera took over at second base.

Gleyber Torres’ departure is the latest in a series of injury woes for the Yankees. Recently, Anthony Rizzo also left a game due to injury, which has raised concerns about the team’s health as they remain among the top teams in MLB.

In the game, Gleyber Torres made his league-leading 11th error when he failed to field a grounder by Jordan Westburg in the fifth inning. Following Gleyber Torres’ exit, the Yankees made several defensive adjustments: Oswaldo Cabrera moved from third base to second, DJ LeMahieu shifted from first to third, and Ben Rice entered the game at first base.

A free agent at the end of the season, Gleyber Torres’ struggles this year are in stark contrast to his performance last season when he batted .273 with 25 home runs and 68 RBIs over a career-high 158 games. Last year, the Yankees finished with an 82-80 record, their worst since 1992 when they went 76-86.

The Yankees will likely be cautious moving forward, given the recent spate of injuries. Despite these setbacks, they continue to rank among the top teams in MLB, showcasing their depth and resilience.

This story is developing. Check back for updates.
