As the 2023 MLB trade deadline approaches, the New York Yankees are carefully considering their options for potential additions before the 6 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday. ESPN reports that the Yankees have dispatched their best scout to closely observe the Chicago Cubs, particularly focusing on Cody Bellinger, who is rumored to be the next exciting sign.

The struggling Yankees are in dire need of a left-handed-hitting outfielder who can make an impact on both sides of the game. Bellinger’s impressive batting performance, defensive skills, and affordability make him an attractive target for the Yankees as they approach the trade deadline.

Is Cody Bellinger ready to join the Yankees?

As previously stated by Pinstripes Nation, Cody Bellinger shares a unique connection with the Yankees, as his father was once a player for the Pinstripes. This special bond has fostered a love story between Cody and the historic baseball franchise. Having won two World Series rings during the Core Four dynasty, Cody’s father, Clay Bellinger, left a lasting legacy with the team.

Recently, Cody Bellinger dropped a strong hint about his inclination to play for the Yankees, adding to the ongoing MLB trade speculations surrounding him. He openly expressed his affection for the team and acknowledged the significance it holds not only for him but also for his entire family.

With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Yankees’ front office may be aware of the potential opportunity to bring Cody Bellinger into their roster. His recent performances with the Cubs, particularly his impressive hitting statistics, make him a valuable asset that could provide a much-needed boost to the Yankees’ lineup, especially with the absence of Aaron Judge.

As Cody reflects on his past experiences, he fondly remembers the times spent at the old Yankee Stadium with his father, creating cherished memories that further strengthen his love for the team. The championship parades in downtown New York City after the Yankees’ back-to-back World Series victories in 1999 and 2000 are etched in his mind as moments of triumph and joy.

Cody Bellinger’s desire to play for the Yankees appears genuine and sincere. Given his exceptional skills and potential fit within the team’s roster, it is no surprise that he is considered a top trade target for the Yankees in 2023. However, any potential trade might come with financial considerations, as the Yankees would be responsible for his salary for the current season and a buyout for the following year.

Bellinger’s batting prowess sets him apart from the current Yankees roster. With a batting average of .303, he outperforms most active Yankees players. His left-handed swing is perfectly suited for the dimensions of Yankee Stadium, where the short right-field porch presents an enticing target for power hitters. Bellinger’s ability to consistently get on base and drive in runs could provide a much-needed boost to the Yankees’ anemic offense.

Beyond his batting capabilities, Bellinger’s defensive skills are top-notch. As an outstanding center fielder, he would complement Harrison Bader and Aaron Judge, forming one of the best defensive outfields in baseball. The Yankees, known for their historic focus on pitching and defense, would greatly benefit from Bellinger’s presence in the outfield.

While Bellinger’s salary is significant, the Yankees have the financial means to accommodate his $17.5 million salary. Acquiring Bellinger would signal their commitment to winning and bolstering the team’s chances in the highly competitive league.

As the Cubs show signs of selling, Bellinger emerges as a prime trade target. With few other attractive options available on the trade market, the Yankees have a unique opportunity to address their outfield needs with the talented and versatile Bellinger.

The idea of seeing a player like Bellinger wearing the famed pinstripes has many supporters enthusiastically daydreaming about the possibilities it could bring.

Nevertheless, it’s important to acknowledge that not all fans are completely sold on the idea and have expressed their concerns.

Cody Bellinger’s addition to the Yankees could be a game-changing move. His impressive batting average, defensive excellence, and affordability make him an ideal fit for the struggling team. The club must act decisively to secure Bellinger’s services and inject much-needed energy and skill into their lineup. With Bellinger on board, the team could reignite their winning ways and once again be a force to be reckoned with in MLB.

When Bellinger arrives he’ll be told to pull everything into short porch and his avg will nosedive at least 50 points. Just like Giambi, Teixeira, McCann were good all around hitters converted to all or nothing pull crazy HR hitters. It’s the Yankee way.
My only hope for change is the signing of Casey as hitting coach. He is old school and not married to analytics. The prior hitting coach was fired per Hal’s instructions. I’d be shocked if, after 26 yrs, Cashman fired a coach during season.
