Yankees star outfielder Juan Soto was forced to leave Thursday’s 8-5 victory against the Minnesota Twins due to what the organization described as discomfort in his left forearm. He is slated to undergo an MRI today.

Following the game, Juan Soto provided an update on his condition, which was reported by ESPN and The Associated Press.

“I don’t know what it’s going to show,” Juan Soto said. “Just woke up one day, felt the tightness and discomfort in my forearm and we’ve been working on it and we’ve been trying to get away with it, and it hasn’t [gone away]… Kind of just been grinding through it. It’s kind of funny. It doesn’t hurt when I throw, or hitting, it’s more like soreness that I feel any kind of move that I make with my arm. But it definitely doesn’t stop me from anything baseball-wise.”

Based on Juan Soto’s remarks, it appears that the injury might not be a major concern. His statement that it “doesn’t stop me from anything baseball-wise” is likely to grab the attention of the team’s management and medical staff.

Nevertheless, the reality remains that there is evidently some level of apprehension regarding Juan Soto’s injury status. The Yankees are committed to ensuring that their prized slugger is in good health and will make a determination on whether to place him on the injured list pending the outcome of the additional assessment that has been mentioned.

Juan Soto’s shock injury

Following a rain delay that lasted nearly an hour, the Yankees made the decision to replace their right fielder, Juan Soto, in the field. While the exact cause of his discomfort was not immediately clear, manager Aaron Boone provided some insight into the situation during his post-game comments.

Boone revealed that Juan Soto had been experiencing forearm discomfort for approximately a week, and the team felt it was in his best interest to shut him down after the prolonged rain delay. During the delay, he was evaluated by the team’s medical staff, who determined that it would be prudent for him to exit the game.

“Once we shut down in the rain delay, that soreness was there so it didn’t feel like it was the right thing to go back out there,” Boone explained.

The slugger echoed his manager’s sentiments, stating, “We all decided to not start getting warm again after an hour sitting here. We don’t want to risk anything like that. So we decided to just stop.”

The outfielder also mentioned that this was the first time he had experienced this particular discomfort, which began when he woke up one day with tightness in his arm. Despite attempting to treat the issue and play through it, as it did not hinder his ability to bat or field, Juan Soto will now undergo imaging on Friday to further assess the situation.

When asked about his level of concern regarding Juan Soto’s condition, Boone cautioned against jumping to conclusions, stating that doing so would be “getting way ahead of ourselves.”

“You take a player out of the game, a player the caliber of Juan out of the game there’s always concern about that,” Boone said. “But also just hoping that we’re being cautious here on a long night with a delay.”

Prior to his departure from the game, Juan Soto had a solid performance at the plate, drawing two walks and scoring a run, despite going 0-for-1.

In his debut season wearing the iconic pinstripes, Juan Soto has been putting up numbers worthy of MVP consideration. The 25-year-old slugger boasts an impressive slash line of .318/.424/1.027, along with 17 home runs and 53 RBI.

Looking ahead, the Yankees’ schedule remains busy, with their next day off not coming until Monday, June 17. This weekend, they will host the formidable Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. Following that, the team will embark on a road trip, first facing the Kansas City Royals for four games before heading to Boston for a three-game set against their arch-rivals, the Red Sox.

Across the 64 games he has played in the 2024 season, Juan Soto’s offensive prowess has been on full display. His .318 batting average and .424 on-base percentage both lead the league, showcasing his exceptional ability to consistently reach base.

In addition to his elite on-base skills, Juan Soto has also demonstrated his power, launching 17 home runs and 11 doubles while driving in 53 runs. Known for his keen eye at the plate, he has drawn an impressive 46 walks, further solidifying his reputation as one of the most disciplined hitters in the game.
