Throughout their storied history, the New York Yankees have showcased their power-hitting prowess by hitting six or more home runs in a single game on 25 occasions. This includes 19 games with six homers, four games with seven, and two remarkable games with eight home runs.

Their latest display of offensive might came on July 29, 2024, when they blasted six homers against the Philadelphia Phillies. These feats highlight the Yankees’ enduring dominance at the plate, solidifying their reputation as one of baseball’s most formidable offensive forces.

Yankees’ six-homer games in record books

The New York Yankees etched their name in baseball lore on September 17, 2020, becoming the first team to hit six or more home runs in three consecutive games. This historic feat occurred as they swept the Toronto Blue Jays, breaking the MLB record for most homers in a three-game stretch with an astounding 19 round-trippers.

The Yankees started with a six-homer game, followed by a seven-homer explosion, and capped the sweep with another six homers. In a surprising twist, this legendary franchise, home to Ruth, Gehrig, and Mantle, achieved another first by hitting five homers in a single inning. Statcast measured the combined distance of their fourth-inning blasts at an impressive 2,005 feet, further cementing the Yankees’ reputation as one of baseball’s most fearsome offensive powerhouses.

On June 12, 2022, the New York Yankees unleashed a barrage of solo home runs against Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Swarmer, tagging him for six round-trippers in just five innings. This extraordinary display etched Swarmer’s name in baseball history as only the second pitcher to yield six solo homers in a single game, matching the dubious record set by Hollis “Sloppy” Thurston on August 13, 1932.

The Yankees’ offensive onslaught was led by Aaron Judge, who clubbed two homers, while Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, Giancarlo Stanton, and Jose Trevino each contributed one. This remarkable performance not only showcased the Yankees’ formidable power but also highlighted the vulnerability of pitchers facing such a potent lineup, with Swarmer’s unfortunate outing becoming a testament to the Bronx Bombers’ offensive prowess.

I think the amusing thing about this feat is that the Yankees some how managed to lose 2 games where they hit 6 home runs: losing 11-12 to the Tigers on 9/10/2019, and losing 8-10 to the Red Sox on 9/24/2010.
