The New York Yankees are hopeful about the imminent return of veteran utilityman Jon Berti, who has been on a rehab assignment following a series of lower-body injuries that kept him sidelined for much of the season.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed the news before the team’s third game against the Cubs this Sunday afternoon. Acquired from the Miami Marlins shortly before Opening Day, Berti’s versatility has been missed, particularly as the Yankees have struggled against left-handed pitching.
What happened

The 34-year-old Jon Berti has impressed during his rehab stint, posting a .984 OPS between Double-A and Triple-A. His recent surge includes a .529/.550/.765 slash line and two home runs over four games with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, raising expectations for his return to the major league roster.
While not known for his power, Jon Berti’s right-handed bat could provide a boost against left-handed pitchers. His ability to play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield offers the Yankees flexibility in their lineup, especially amid recent struggles by outfielder Alex Verdugo, who has posted a 63 wRC+ over his last 10 games.
The Yankees face decisions in the coming days, with Jon Berti emerging as a potential solution for their outfield issues. According to the Bryan Hoch, he is expected to rejoin the team as early as tomorrow.
