Two budding stars in the Yankees’ farm system hinted at a bright future during Friday’s live batting practice, igniting hope that their contributions to the starting rotation might be closer than anticipated.

On a backfield bustling with anticipation, prospects Will Warren and Chase Hampton took center stage, showcasing their talents before the watchful eye of Yankees executives and coaches. Their impressive performances served as a reminder of the depth brewing within the organization’s pitching pool.

Manager Aaron Boone expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the two players, emphasizing their positive development and the value of their presence in the camp. He highlighted their progress and expressed confidence in their promising futures.

Yankees pitching prospects shine in live practice

Friday’s live BP session wasn’t just about impressive displays; it was a glimpse into the Yankees‘ future. Prospects Will Warren and Chase Hampton’s dominant performances hinted at their potential to bolster the starting rotation, a need amplified by recent trades and lingering health concerns among established pitchers.

While both prospects showcased talent, Warren’s path appears more immediate. His solid Triple-A performance last season positions him for a quicker leap to the big leagues. However, scouts believe Hampton harbors even greater long-term potential.

Regardless of individual timelines, one thing is clear: the Yankees need pitching depth beyond their current rotation. Trades made to acquire Juan Soto thinned their ranks, creating a critical opening for young talents like Warren and Hampton. This session wasn’t just a demonstration of skills; it was a call to arms, an opportunity for these prospects to seize their chance and become crucial contributors to the Yankees in the not-so-distant future.

Warren expressed his belief in his ability to contribute to the team’s success, focusing on his desire to showcase his skills on the field. He indicated his readiness to demonstrate his capabilities without speculating on the extent of his potential impact or the limitations of his performance.

Young gun Will Warren, a 24-year-old righty, thrives on his potent sinker-slider combo, according to manager Aaron Boone. This lethal duo proves particularly effective against right-handed hitters, making Warren a valuable weapon in the Yankees’ pitching arsenal.

Beyond his signature pitches, Warren boasts a diverse repertoire that includes a four-seam fastball, changeup, and cutter. He’s been diligently honing these additional offerings since being drafted by the Yankees in 2021, showcasing his dedication to becoming a well-rounded pitcher.

At just 22 years old, righty Chase Hampton made a splash in his pro debut last season. Splitting time between High-A Hudson Valley and Double-A Somerset, he racked up an impressive 3.63 ERA with a whopping 145 strikeouts over 106 ²/₃ innings, turning heads throughout the organization.

Hampton attributed his competitive nature to his approach, emphasizing his determination to secure victories and his inclination to strive for strikeouts against opponents. He highlighted this aspect as the primary driver behind his mindset.

Both Warren and Hampton are soaking up knowledge like sponges at their first big league camp. This invaluable experience isn’t just about learning from established players; it’s also a golden opportunity for the Yankees to evaluate their young arms up close. Their eagerness and impressive performances serve as a double win: the prospects gain invaluable knowledge, while the team gains a clearer picture of its future pitching depth.

Pitching coach Matt Blake remarked that both players possess sophisticated pitching repertoires, indicating their potential. He mentioned the importance of gaining experience in facing higher-caliber hitters to refine their strategic approach on the mound.
