NEW YORK – Josh Donaldson will be the latest Yankees with an injury making them the team with the most injured players. He left the Yankees during their 4-2 victory over the Phillies on Wednesday with tightness in his right hamstring. The team said he will be re-evaluated on Thursday.

Josh Donaldson gets injured

The 2015 AL Most Valuable Player left the game when he hit a flyout to start the second inning at Yankee Stadium. Josh Donaldson ran to first base at about half speed and stopped between home and first base. At the start of the third inning, Isiah Kiner-Falefa came in for Donaldson.

“We didn’t want to push it,” Josh Donaldson said.

After the game, Josh Donaldson told reporters that he was still a little sore. Josh Donaldson said his hamstring will be checked again in a few days to see if he needs to go on the injured list.

“Don’t think it’s too severe,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. “But it is a hamstring.”

Fans want him demoted

The third baseman has had a rough start to the season. Josh Donaldson has only had two hits in 16 at-bats. After hitting, the 37-year-old just finished one of the worst seasons of his career. In 2022, he hit 222/.308/.374 with 15 home runs in 59 games. Yankees fans are pressing to demote him.

The Yankees have had a rough start to the season because of injuries, most of which have been to their pitching department. Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, Frankie Montas, Tommy Kahnle, and Lou Trivino were all injured and couldn’t play on Opening Day. Outfielder Harrison Bader was also hurt and couldn’t play.

Who will replace him?

If Josh Donaldson gets hurt, it could be a chance for Oswald Peraza to come back to the big leagues. He and Anthony Volpe battled for a spot on the team’s roster during spring training. He did well in the majors for a short time last year, hitting .306/.404/.429 in 18 games in September.

The Yankees could also put DJ LeMahieu at third base and spend more time with Gleyber Torres at second. Oswaldo Cabrera and Kiner-Falefa are both versatile players who could also play third for New York.
