Is Blake Snell going to the Yankees?
Blake Snell, the recipient of his second Cy Young Award in 2023, boasted impressive statistics with a 2.25 ERA and 234 strikeouts over 180 innings. However, despite his accolades, Snell finds himself without a team for the 2024 season and beyond.
As spring training commences across baseball, the talented left-hander remains a free agent, alongside three other clients of agent Scott Boras: Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman, and Jordan Montgomery.
The New York Yankees initially showed interest in Snell, extending a six-year, $150 million offer in January. However, Blake Snell declined, seeking more years and greater financial compensation, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
Has Scott Boras influenced the Yankees’ decision regarding Blake Snell?

Recent reports suggest that Blake Snell still holds an offer from the Yankees, although an MLB source informed that such claims are unsubstantiated. It’s speculated that Scott Boras may be embellishing the Yankees‘ interest to drive up Snell’s market value for other potential suitors, such as the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels.
Blake Snell has an offer on the table from the Yankees, per source, though the Angels and Giants remain possibilities for the reigning NL Cy Young winner.

Boras emphasized the value of elite talents in impacting winning outcomes, implying that teams should prioritize acquiring such players for the benefit of their cities and fans.
Following Blake Snell’s rejection of the Yankees’ offer, the team shifted its focus to Marcus Stroman, finalizing a two-year, $37 million deal. While Boras may be seeking another offer from the Yankees or any interested party to present to Snell, it appears improbable from the Yankees’ perspective.
Firstly, the Yankees express contentment with their current rotation, featuring Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, and Nestor Cortes. Additionally, the team’s projected competitive balance tax payroll exceeds MLB’s highest luxury tax tier, with every dollar beyond subject to a 110% tax rate.

I don’t think Snell is worth it. He just never lifted his hand in the 3 years in SD. One Cy season, 2 subpar years – just like in TB. But I do not deny the guy is talented.
