New York Yankees starting infielders Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu are absent from the lineup for Thursday night’s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.
What happened with Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu?
Gleyber Torres was benched for the second game between the New York Yankees and the Mets due to a lack of hustle in the previous game. His performance at both the plate and in the field has been subpar for much of the season.
DJ LeMahieu, returning from the injured list, has struggled offensively. In 85 plate appearances with the Yankees this season, he has yet to record an extra-base hit and holds a .143 batting average with a .452 OPS.
In their absence, Jahmai Jones will start in the Yankees’ lineup at second base and bat sixth, while Oswaldo Cabrera will hit eighth and play third base.
With the trade deadline approaching, the Yankees may look to bolster their infield if Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu do not show improvement in the coming weeks.
