Gleyber Torres is set to return to the Yankees‘ lineup on Friday night, as announced by manager Aaron Boone and reported by Brian Hoch of MLB.com.
“I know how much Gleyber cares. I know how hard he’s working behind the scenes. But I’ve also been in his shoes where the game’s hard and it can beat you down.” Boone told prior to Thursday’s 9-2 loss to Toronto.
“I’m looking forward to what I know is going to be a resurgence for him at some point. … He’s too good a hitter to be held down for too long.”
What lies ahead for Gleyber Torres?

Right after facing criticism from manager Aaron Boone and a 0-for-4 night against the Mets at the plate, Gleyber Torres was benched from the Yankees lineup. His failure to run out a ground ball, although attributed to a groin issue, was notable.
The Venezuelan infielder has faced difficulties, particularly during the first matchup in the Subway Series, which contributed to his benching.
His performance this season has been a far cry from last year’s, as evidenced by his statistics: Gleyber Torres has slashed .215/.294/.333 with 62 hits and 78 strikeouts so far this season, compared to his .273/.347/.453 slash line last season. Additionally, his fielding has been problematic, with a .960 fielding percentage at second base and 12 errors, the second-most in MLB.
Despite his struggles and absence in the game against the Mets, Gleyber Torres will not be playing in tonight’s game against the Blue Jays. The series opener at Rogers Centre is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET, heightening the anticipation for his return.
