New York Yankees 7, Chicago White Sox 1
CHICAGO — Aaron Judge and Kyle Higashioka each hit a home run, propelling the New York Yankees to a 7-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox during Tuesday night’s game.
Clarke Schmidt (8-6) delivered a tidy performance, lasting deep into the sixth inning and collaborating with two relievers to achieve a total of 13 strikeouts. This strong showing aided the Yankees, who are in the playoff hunt, in securing the victory following a recent loss of three out of four games.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa notched a two-run double and crossed the plate in the midst of New York’s four-run surge in the fourth inning against Touki Toussaint (1-5). The Yankees added another three runs in the eighth frame, powered by the home runs from Higashioka and Judge off Tanner Banks.
Stepping in for Ben Rortvedt, Higashioka smashed a two-run homer, marking his inaugural career pinch-hit home run and also becoming the Yankees’ first player to achieve this feat in the current season. Subsequently, Judge extended the lead to 7-1 with his 21st home run.
Schmidt conceded only one run and surrendered four hits across 5 1/3 innings. The right-handed pitcher recorded seven strikeouts while issuing just one walk.
In relief, Michael King took the mound for 2 2/3 innings, permitting two hits and amassing five strikeouts without issuing any walks. New York emerged victorious in this contest, having faced three defeats in the initial four matchups against the White Sox.
Luis Robert Jr. of Chicago initiated the fourth inning with his 31st home run. However, the White Sox’s winning streak of three games came to an end as they fell short.
Toussaint registered nine strikeouts over five innings, yielding six hits and granting five walks.
New York asserted its dominance in the fourth inning, sending a total of 10 batters to the plate.
After consecutive singles by Giancarlo Stanton and Billy McKinney, Kiner-Falefa drove in two runs with a double. He then crossed the plate thanks to Harrison Bader’s single, which went past a diving first baseman, Andrew Vaughn.
With the bases loaded, Jake Bauers contributed a sacrifice fly that reached the center-field warning track, extending the lead to 4-0.
