The New York Yankees are facing yet another injury setback as third baseman Josh Donaldson‘s right calf flares up once again. After experiencing discomfort in Saturday’s game against the Rockies, Donaldson will undergo an MRI to assess the severity of the injury.

The team is anxiously awaiting the results, but there is growing speculation that Oswald Peraza may be called up from the minors if Donaldson requires an injured list (IL) stint.

With Donaldson’s recent struggles and the manager’s cautious remarks, the Yankees are understandably concerned about the impact of this setback.

Donaldson initially suffered a calf injury a few weeks ago, which has been a recurring problem for him. As a result, he has been limited to designated hitter duties in recent games to manage the issue. However, his calf trouble resurfaced during his final plate appearance on Saturday, prompting the need for further medical evaluation.

Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports that there is cause for concern regarding Donaldson’s calf injury. Yankees manager Aaron Boone‘s somber tone during recent interviews has only added to the unease surrounding the situation. While the severity of the injury is yet to be determined, Boone’s lack of optimism suggests that the team may have to prepare for an extended period without their veteran third baseman.

If Donaldson does require an IL stint, the Yankees have reportedly identified Oswald Peraza as a potential replacement. Peraza, a promising young infielder in the Yankees’ farm system, could be called up to fill the void left by Donaldson’s absence. While he may not possess Donaldson’s experience and power, Peraza brings a fresh energy and defensive versatility that could prove valuable to the team.

Losing Donaldson for an extended period would undoubtedly be a blow to the Yankees. Despite his recent struggles, Donaldson’s presence in the lineup provides a much-needed veteran presence and power potential. His absence would put additional pressure on other players to step up and fill the offensive void. Furthermore, Donaldson’s defensive contributions would be sorely missed, as his experience and strong arm at third base have been assets for the team.

The Yankees are no strangers to injuries, having dealt with various health issues throughout the season. However, the loss of Donaldson could further test their depth and resilience. It would be crucial for the team to rally together and find ways to compensate for his absence, both on offense and defense.

Josh Donaldson’s recurring calf injury has raised concerns for the New York Yankees. As the third baseman undergoes an MRI to determine the severity of the issue, there is growing uncertainty about his condition. The team’s lack of optimism, combined with the potential call-up of Oswald Peraza, suggests that Donaldson may face an extended absence.

If this proves to be the case, the Yankees will need to adapt and find ways to compensate for the loss of their veteran third baseman. In a season already marred by injuries, this setback serves as another hurdle that the team must overcome in their quest for success.
