Brian Cashman, the general manager of the Yankees, said that Josh Donaldson will “definitely” play third base for them in 2023. He put an end to rumors that the team would trade away the 37-year-old veteran before the season starts. Many New York fans may be disappointed by this since Donaldson didn’t do much on offense last year.
Last night, Yankees reporter Bryan Hoch talked about this latest news on his show “The Beat Report.” Hoch talked about Josh Donalson’s confirmed spot in the hot corner for the upcoming season.
“Josh Donaldson will ‘definitely’ be the Yankees’ third baseman in 2023, according to General Manager Brian Cashman,” says Bryan Hoch.
Cashman and manager Aaron Boone both agreed that Josh Donaldson’s offense wasn’t very good last year, but they both thought that his defense at third base helped the pitchers a lot. In 132 games for the Yankees, Josh Donaldson scored 222 runs, hit 15 home runs, and drove in 62 runs. They are counting on Donaldson to get back on track offensively since his defense helped them save a lot of runs last year.
Will Josh Donaldson have ‘another big offensive season?‘
The Yankees sent Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela to Minnesota before the 2022 season to acquire Josh Donaldson and IKF. Fans had mixed feelings about the trade from the start. After both additions fail to make some good production, the Yankees’ fans have thought of it as a mistake, and New York fans everywhere have been very harsh on Donaldson.
Even though no one has ever questioned his talent, many people think that the 2015 American League MVP is not as good as he used to be. Josh Donaldson did have a great year defensively, but he has been very bad at hitting. Many people think that his contract is “bloated” now that he is 34 years old and still has $21 million left on it and a $6 million option for 2024.
The vote of confidence from the Yankees’ general manager will definitely boost Josh Donaldson’s confidence as he heads into his second season with New York. Cashman and Boone both think Josh Donaldson has a lot to offer the team, despite what fans and critics say about him. They are willing to give him a chance to show it. The only question is whether or not Josh Donaldson can change things in 2023.
