Derek Jeter and Mariah Carey were big names in the late 1990s. When “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” the singer’s memoir, came out in September 2020, the 52-year-old singer talked about a lot of things that had never been talked about before.

Mariah told the truth about a lot of things, including her short-lived relationship with New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter. In her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” Mariah said that the Yankees captain was the second man she had ever been intimate with. This was a shocking fact.

“Derek was only the second person I had slept with ever (coincidentally, his number was 2 on the Yankees).”

From 1997 to 1998, Derek Jeter and Mariah Carey were an item. At a party, they met and fell in love. The singer Mariah was married to music executive Tommy Mottola when she started dating Derek. Mariah told Oprah that Derek was the “catalyst” that made her leave her abusive marriage and start a new life.

Singer dedicated two songs to Derek Jeter

In September 2020, Mariah Carey said that “My All” and “The Roof” were both about Derek Jeter, the former shortstop for the New York Yankees.

Here is what Mariah wrote for Derek Jeter when she was writing the words “My All.”

“I’d give my all to have, Just one more night with you, I’d risk my life to feel, Your body next to mine, Cause I can’t go on, Living in the memory of our song, I’d give my all for your love tonight.”

And here are the words to the song “My Roof”:

“Every time I feel thе need (And every time), I envision you caressin’ me, And go back in time (Back in time), To relive the splendor of you and I, On the rooftop that rainy night.”

Derek Jeter is currently married to model and television host Hannah Davis, and they have three daughters together.

The Captain had a short-lived but intimate affair with the singer from 1997 and 1998.

Mariah Carey’s memoir also talks about how she got freedom from her abusive marriage with Tommy Mottola after she came in contact with Derek Jeter. According to her:

“And the intimacy of our shared racial experience was major — to connect with a healthy family who looked like mine was very inspiring. He was in the right place at the right time, and he was there for the right purpose.”

In 1999, Derek Jeter spoke to Sports Illustrated:

“I have to be with someone very understanding, someone who’s willing to deal with all the attention. But going out with Mariah that’s taking it to a whole other level. She’s someone who’s known worldwide. I don’t see how two very famous people—and I’m nowhere close to her level—would be able to deal with that over the long haul. It’s too much.”
