Two of New York’s most prominent sports broadcasters, YES Network and MSG Networks, are teaming up to launch The Gotham Sports App, a groundbreaking streaming service designed to make it easier for Yankees fans and other New York sports enthusiasts to follow their favorite teams.

This fall, ahead of the NHL and NBA seasons, the app will debut, consolidating both networks’ mobile platforms into a single, easy-to-use hub for streaming live games.

What’s the Gotham Sports App

The Gotham Sports App will offer fans a centralized platform where they can access games from the Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, Devils, Islanders, Sabres, and Nets. According to Variety, this initiative marks a significant move by YES and MSG to simplify access to New York sports content, a challenge that many larger companies have yet to master on a national scale.

For Yankees fans in particular, the app is a game-changer. Subscribers to YES or MSG Networks within their regional territories will gain access to The Gotham Sports App at no extra cost. This means uninterrupted access to Yankees games, along with other New York sports, all through a single app.

This means you could catch Aaron Judge hitting a home run in 2025 without needing a traditional cable subscription. The app provides an affordable alternative with a combined streaming package priced at $359.99 per year or $41.99 per month.

MSG and YES announce they're going to launch an app this fall that will combine MSG+ and YES app. It'll be called The Gotham Sports App and have Knicks, Yankees, Nets, Rangers, Devils, Islanders, and Sabers. If you get MSGN or YES through cable, it'll be free.

Andrea Greenberg, president and CEO of MSG Networks, highlighted the app’s user-friendly approach. “With the increased fragmentation of outlets carrying fan-favorite sports programming, The Gotham Sports App allows fans of our teams one easy access point for New York area sporting events from MSG Networks and the YES Network,” Greenberg stated. This reflects the companies’ commitment to delivering a seamless experience for fans who are increasingly turning to digital platforms for their sports consumption.

The launch comes at a critical time in the sports broadcasting industry. Traditional cable networks are facing stiff competition from streaming services, and major players like Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery have announced plans to launch their own joint venture, Venu, aimed at younger viewers who prefer streaming over cable. However, Venu’s rollout has been delayed due to legal challenges, leaving an opening for The Gotham Sports App to capture a significant share of the market.

In January, YES and MSG Networks established Gotham Advanced Media and Entertainment (GAME), a joint venture aimed at exploring new ways to monetize their streaming products. The Gotham Sports App is one of the first major initiatives to emerge from this collaboration. According to Jon Litner, CEO of YES Network, the app will feature cutting-edge technology designed to enhance the fan experience, including live stats, free-to-play real-time games, and a loyalty program that offers rewards points.

For Yankees fans, The Gotham Sports App is poised to become an essential tool, providing easy access to live games and exclusive content, all within a single, user-friendly platform. As the sports broadcasting landscape continues to evolve, YES and MSG Networks are positioning themselves at the forefront of the digital revolution, ensuring that New York sports, and the Yankees in particular, remain easily accessible to their loyal fanbase.
