Carlos Rodon faced an unusual challenge on Wednesday when a malfunction with his PitchCom device led to a costly mistake against the Nationals. The Yankees left-hander, struggling this season, allowed a leadoff home run and put runners on the corners with no outs.

Attempting to address the apparent PitchCom issue, Rodon stepped off the rubber, but was called for a balk by home plate umpire Tony Randazzo. The balk allowed James Wood to score from third, adding to the Yankees’ frustrations.

Carlos Rodon was visibly upset, arguing that the malfunctioning PitchCom caused his decision to step off the rubber. Yankees manager Aaron Boone quickly intervened to keep Rodon from being ejected, but the incident only highlighted the pitcher’s recent struggles. Even after switching to a new PitchCom device, issues persisted, forcing catcher Austin Wells to use hand signals. Rodon managed to escape further trouble in the first, but allowed two more runs in the third inning.

Following the game, Yankees fans took to social media, calling for Carlos Rodon to leave the team at the end of the year. Citing his inconsistent performances and lack of control, many fans expressed frustration with his ongoing struggles. The name Rodon quickly began trending, reaching the third spot on X.com as fans voiced their discontent. The balk call and subsequent loss only intensified calls for change.

He should not get a playoff start. I actually would leave him off playoff roster. Cole 1 Gil 2 if healthy or Cortes 2 Gil 3, and Stroman 4. Schmidt 5 if healthy. Rodon would be Kevin brown Jon Lieber, and Javier Vazquez last option in playoffs. Or off playoff roster

At this point, Carlos Rodon needs to DitchCom https://t.co/CACIrjliQK

Carlos Rodon is brutal to watch.

He melts down in big moments. Can regain concentration. Unpredictable awful outings (against shitty teams).

You want him to do well but he's just unreliable.#Yankees

Rodon is garbage, just add him to the list of Cashman failures

— greyhond28SZN #firecashman (@Greyhond23) August 28, 2024

Good thing the playoffs are in October and Rodón won’t have to pitch in the heat cause he literally turns into a steaming pile of dog 💩 when it’s over 80 degrees

— Rambo (@chesportsguy) August 29, 2024

Only 4 more years at 27 mil a year left on Rodon’s contract. Only 2 more years at 15 mil a year left on DJ LeMahieu’s contract. Exceptional work once again from Brian Cashman.

— Bob Stew (@TheBobStew) August 29, 2024

This incident has amplified criticism of both Rodon and the Yankees’ handling of his difficulties. Fans flooded social media with suggestions that the team move on from Carlos Rodon to bring in fresh talent.

With the regular season nearing its end, the pressure on Carlos Rodon is mounting, as each outing could determine his future in pinstripes. The organization faces a critical decision, but a significant portion of the fanbase has already made its opinion clear.
