The New York Yankees traded Jordan Montgomery in August 2022 claiming that he was not the player who could help them go into the postseason. On Sunday, the same player made history as the first Texas Rangers pitcher to record multiple postseason starts with six or more scoreless innings.

His impressive performance included pitching 6.1 scoreless innings and played a crucial role in the Texas Rangers’ 2-0 triumph over the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. One of the standout moments was when Jordan Montgomery struck out a batter to leave three Astros runners stranded on base in the fourth inning, earning him praise from fans and teammates alike.

Jordan Montgomery, originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2014 MLB Draft, made his Major League debut with the Yankees in 2017. Despite having some decent seasons in New York, the Yankees considered him expendable and traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals midway through 2022. After spending approximately a year with the Cardinals, he was traded to the Texas Rangers in July of this year, where he has made a significant impact in strengthening their bullpen.

During his time with the Yankees, Jordan Montgomery had a record of 22 wins and 20 losses with a respectable 3.94 ERA. He also made a postseason start for the Yankees in 2020. In the regular season, he posted a 10-11 record with a 3.70 ERA. Notably, he consistently pitched at least six innings in each of his last four regular-season games, with three of those outings extending to seven innings.

Ex-Yankees pitcher Jordan Montgomery

Before the start of the ALCS, Jordan Montgomery had a postseason record of 1 win and 0 losses with an ERA of 3.27.

Jordan Montgomery displayed a masterful performance in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series against Tampa Bay. During the game, he pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just six hits, striking out five batters, and issuing no walks. His outstanding performance played a significant role in the Rangers’ two-game sweep of the Rays.

The Yankees traded Jordan Montgomery because they doubted his ability to secure a spot in their postseason rotation. However, the tables have turned, and he finds himself excelling in the postseason while the New York team missed out on a postseason spot this season.

Yankees fans target Cashman over Jordan Montgomery

Yankees fans are expressing regret over the Montgomery trade from last year and have turned to social media platforms, including ‘X,’ formerly Twitter, to vent their frustrations at GM Brian Cashman and his front office.
