In response, some Yankees fans expressed sympathy, lamenting the sight of Gleyber Torres in such a state. Others speculated that this might be a sign he will leave the team at the end of the season.

Nevertheless, a lot of them asked for Gleyber Torres to be traded due to his poor performances wearing the Yankees’ colors this season.

Mental struggles are a common, standard part of the game. The severity of Gleyber Torres’ mental struggles are unique and are unlike many, if any, I’ve seen before.

Will Gleyber Torres remain with the Yankees?

According to the New York Post, one of the reasons for Gleyber Torres’ underwhelming performance this season is attributed to his attitude, coupled with his poor on-field performance. This has led to increased speculation about his future with the team.

Gleyber Torres in 2024

Gleyber Torres has had a rough start through his first 80 games, entering Wednesday’s game with a .215 batting average, the 14th-worst among all MLB qualifiers. His career OPS of .789 has dropped to .628. His defensive performance has also been subpar, with 12 errors—the most by any second baseman this season—and a missed grounder costing the Yankees a run on Tuesday. Additionally, his effort was questioned when he failed to run out a softly hit ground ball in the eighth inning, which could have been a close play had he run hard.

After the game, Gleyber Torres cited a groin issue that had previously forced him out of a game last week, saying it tightened up again. Manager Aaron Boone called Torres into his office for a discussion following the loss.
