The New York Yankees are taking a cautious approach with Tommy Kahnle this spring following his 2023 season cut short by right shoulder inflammation, as per Greg Joyce of the New York Post.

Tommy Kahnle is a a little behind the rest of the relievers because of a slower buildup from the shoulder issue that ended his season last year. He’s been throwing bullpens but may not get in a game towards the end of spring, per Boone.

Despite showing signs of good health and participating in bullpen sessions, Tommt Kahnle’s Grapefruit League appearances may be delayed until later in spring, according to manager Aaron Boone’s remarks on Monday. It remains uncertain whether Tommy Kahnle might end up on the injured list. While Kahnle has faced challenges staying healthy, his performance on the mound has been stellar. In 2023, he posted a 2.66 ERA and recorded a 48:19 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 40.2 innings.

The manager of the New York Yankees, Aaron Boone indicated that Tommy Kahnle’s readiness for Opening Day hinges on the number of games the team wants him to pitch before the season starts.

In 2023, Tommy Kahnle’s season took a tumultuous turn due to a series of setbacks. His injury, initially diagnosed as shoulder inflammation in September, evolved into a significant setback for the player. Despite hopes for a routine offseason recovery, as reported by CBS Sports, Kahnle faced unexpected delays. At the end of the season, the veteran right-handed pitcher concluded with one win, two saves, and 14 holds, maintaining a 2.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 48:19 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 40.2 innings pitched out of the New York bullpen.

The Yankees, known for their careful handling of injured players, are keen to ensure Kahnle’s rehabilitation progresses smoothly to avoid any recurrence of his shoulder issues. The team’s cautious approach reflects their commitment to Kahnle’s long-term health and their aspirations for a successful 2024 season. With Kahnle’s track record of excellence on the mound, his return to full strength could be a significant boost for the Yankees’ pitching rotation, potentially solidifying their chances in the competitive American League East division.

As spring training unfolds, Kahnle’s progress will be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike, eager to see him back in action and contributing to the Yankees’ quest for postseason glory.
