New York Yankees 12- 2 Athletics
The Yankees handed former ace Luis Severino a harsh reunion in Sacramento, tagging him for eight runs over four innings en route to a 12-2 blowout win over the Athletics on Sunday. With the victory, New York clinched the series and continued its strong West Coast run.
Judge, Goldschmidt power Yankees’ offensive onslaught

Aaron Judge led the offensive outburst with a four-hit performance, including a pair of RBIs. He raised his batting average to an MLB-best .409. Paul Goldschmidt added three hits and a run-scoring double, lifting his own average to .349, second only to Judge in the majors.
This was Severino’s first career start against the Yankees since signing with the crosstown Mets last year. He never faced New York during his time in Queens, and Sunday’s matchup offered a much-anticipated look at the right-hander against his former team. It didn’t go as hoped.

New York struck early. Goldschmidt opened the game with a ground-rule double that initially looked like a triple until the umpires ruled the ball lodged in the outfield wall. After a wild pitch and a walk to Jasson Dominguez, Anthony Volpe delivered an RBI single. Severino then walked Oswaldo Cabrera to force in a second run and surrendered another on a Jorbit Vivas groundout. After plunking Ben Rice to reload the bases, Judge capped the five-run inning with a two-RBI single.
The Yankees tacked on a sixth run in the third when Dominguez scored from first on Cabrera’s double. Severino was pulled in the fifth after allowing back-to-back singles. He finished his day having given up eight earned runs on nine hits, with two walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Mitch Spence replaced him but couldn’t stop the bleeding. After loading the bases, Spence recorded two outs and came within a pitch of escaping the jam. But Rice connected for his first career grand slam, launching the Yankees into double digits and effectively putting the game out of reach at 10-1.
The offensive barrage continued in the sixth with another run-scoring double from Goldschmidt. Judge added his fourth hit of the day in the seventh and later came around to score, pushing the Yankees’ lead to 12-2.
On the mound, Ryan Yarbrough gave the Yankees five solid innings in a spot start, allowing just two runs on six hits. Oakland scored on an RBI single by former Yankee Miguel Andújar in the fourth and a solo homer by JJ Bleday in the fifth, but that was the extent of their offense.
Yerry De los Santos followed with three scoreless innings in relief, and Tyler Matzek pitched a clean ninth to seal the win.
All nine Yankees reached base, with eight recording hits. It was a complete team effort in New York’s first-ever visit to Sacramento, where the team outscored the A’s 21-4 over the final two games of the series.
