Will MVP Candidate Aaron Judge Lead the Yankees to a Subway Series Victory?

The New York Yankees (66-31) and New York Mets (59-37) begin a two-game Subway Series at Citi Field on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET.

The New York Yankees enter this game from a series victory over the Baltimore Orioles, after a 6-0 win.

First meeting in the season series. Teams play two games in Yankee Stadium on August 22 and 23. In 2021, the Mets defeated the Yankees in four of six games.

The Yankees are 2-3 in the second half of a road trip that began with stops in Houston and Baltimore. In its last ten road games, New York has a .913 OPS. The Yankees’ .784 OPS away from home leads the league this season.

The Mets lost two of three to the San Diego Padres last weekend and are 5-7 in their last ten games at Citi Field.

Projected Starters: LHP Jordan Montgomery vs. RHP Taijuan Walker

Montgomery (3-2, 3.24 ERA) is scheduled to make his 20th start. In 108 1/3 innings, he has a 1.05 WHIP, 1.67 BB/9, and 7.3 K/9. In three career starts against the Mets, he has a 7.11 ERA. Montgomery has restricted left-handed batters to a .448 OPS this season.

Walker (7-2, 2.55 ERA) has 91 2/3 innings pitched, a 1.09 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, and 7.2 K/9. Current Yankee batters have a combined .827 batting average against him. He allowed one ER in his last 21 innings at home and has a 1.80 ERA in his last seven starts overall. He has been hampered by knee and shoulder pain, so keep an eye on his status for this one.
