MINNEAPOLIS — The recovery of Lou Trivino from a UCL strain he sustained during spring training has hit a snag, and he has a doctor’s appointment scheduled.

The experienced reliever had been rehabilitating his elbow ligament injury in Tampa, but Lou Trivino did not recover as expected after a recent live batting practice session. As a result, he is set to meet with Yankees team doctor Chris Ahmad on Wednesday in New York.

Boone feels the hit after Lou Trivino setback

“Didn’t feel anything in the lives, but the next couple days were not how he should have been feeling,” manager Aaron Boone said after the Yankees lost 6-1 to the Twins at Target Field on Monday.

Lou Trivino had been gradually rehabilitated by the Yankees after being shut down after one Grapefruit League appearance.

It was Trivino’s first time on the disabled list due to an arm injury.

Any setback with a UCL may be concerning, but Boone said he didn’t want to get ahead of himself until Trivino — who is under club control through 2024 — visited with Ahmad.

“I mean, it’s not good that he had to get shut down from where he was in a good spot and feeling good,” Boone said. “So we’ll see.”

The Yankees injury bag

The Yankees are making progress with several injured players. Harrison Bader, who has been out with a strained oblique, is transferring his rehab assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Although manager Boone stated that Bader will require approximately ten more games before returning from the IL, the upcoming Yankees series against the Rays on May 5-7 could mark his potential comeback.

Luis Severino, who has been dealing with a strained lat, completed two simulated innings of live batting practice on Monday and is set to do so again on Friday. If he responds well, he could begin a rehab assignment soon. Meanwhile, Tommy Kahnle, who has been battling biceps tendinitis, is expected to throw his first bullpen session by the end of the current seven-game road trip.

Jonathan Loaisiga, who has been dealing with elbow inflammation, continued his throwing program on Monday and could take the mound for a bullpen session by the upcoming weekend. Overall, the Yankees are hopeful that these players will soon return to the team, which will provide a boost as they continue through the season.
