MINNEAPOLIS — On Monday night, Sonny Gray went seven innings without giving up a run, and Joey Gallo hit a home run. These two former Yankees helped the Minnesota Twins beat the New York Yankees 6-1.
Jorge Polanco added two hits and three runs batted in for Minnesota. Polanco has hit safely in each of the four games he has played so far this season. His start was delayed in the spring because of soreness in his left knee.
This year, the Twins have won three of their first five games against their old rival. Since 2002, during the regular season, the Yankees are 100-41 against Minnesota, which is the best record for any team against one opponent during that time.

Gray (3-0) only gave up three hits and struck out eight batters, lowering his earned run average to a best-in-the-majors 0.62. The right-handed veteran pitched for New York for parts of two seasons and went 15-16 with a 4.51 ERA. In 29 innings this season, he has given up two runs and struck out 34 batters.
Right-handed rookie Jhony Brito, who is 2-2, had another bad game against the Twins. He gave up three runs on three hits and three walks. After his worst start against Minnesota in New York on April 13, when he only got two outs and gave up seven runs, he threw 80 pitches in just 2 2/3 innings.
The Yankees and Twins split their four-game series in New York. Over the weekend, at home against Toronto, the Yankees lost their first series of the season.
