Michael Kay says Yankees are ‘working on something bigger’ than starter Carlos Rodon

The Yankees signed Aaron Judge to a big, long-term deal and looking to have two-time, All-Star pitcher Carlos Rodon on their roster. However, Michael Kay, the long-time broadcaster at the Yankees booth and an MLB insider, believes that the team is working on something much bigger than just signing the star starter.

During The Michael Kay Show on ESPN, the sportscaster talked about the Yankees’ plans for the offseason and possible new signings and said:

“I heard they’re in on Rodon, but….there’s something even bigger that they’re working on.”

During the regular season, the Yankees won 99 games, which was enough to finish first in the AL East. In five of the last six seasons, the team won more than 90 games (the exception being the shortened 2020 60-game season). Even though they’ve made the playoffs for the past six years in a row, New Yorkers will expect more from them next year, according to Michael Kay.

The club did well to keep most of the 2022 team together. But they’ll need more weapons if they want to do better than last year’s disappointing exit from the American League Championship Series. Now that Aaron Judge has a long-term deal, the New York Yankees want to add more players to their team to help the slugger. People have suggested that Carlos Rodon, Carlos Correa, and Luis Arraez could work in New York and Michael Kay agrees with it.

The Yankee fans are lucky that re-signing Aaron Judge is just the beginning. Michael Kay says that Rodon is not the only player the team is looking for. Kay said that the business’s owners were working on something “even bigger.” That suggests that the team will sign more big names in the next few weeks.

Recent news stories say that the club is interested in Carlos Correa too. The player has done well for the Minnesota Twins this year. Correa has been an All-Star twice and won the World Series. He is a veteran shortstop and one of the most sought-after players still available as a free agent. Last season, Correa had a slash line of .291/.366/.467 and an OPS of .833. He was second on the Twins team in both home runs (22) and runs batted in (RBIs) (64).

Luis Arraez, an infielder, is also an interesting choice. The Venezuelan is still young at 25 and keeps getting better every year. Arraez’s batting average of .316 was the best in the American League, and he was in the top ten in OBP.

Rodon is still the most valuable thing in this market. Jameson Taillon is now playing for the Chicago Cubs, so the Yankees need a top-starting pitcher.

It’s still not clear if the Yankees will sign a free agent or put together a huge trade package. One thing seems certain: the Bronx Bombers won’t be done making moves this offseason.
