It’s award season in Major League Baseball, and some of the best players are getting recognition from different publications and groups.

When it came to defense, the 2022 season was great for New York Yankees catcher Jose Trevino. He really made a difference behind the plate, which is why he won his first Fielding Bible Award.

“Congratulations to @Yankees catcher Jose Trevino on winning his 1st Fielding Bible Award. Trevino was a pitch framer and excelled at other aspects of the position as well. Here are a few of his highlights,” SIS Baseball tweeted, with a video of some of his best plays.

The Fielding Bible Award is given to the best fielder in each league at each position. This is done with the help of statisticians. The process is run every year by John Dewan and Baseball Info Solutions. The Fielding Bible awards are usually given out before the Gold Gloves, which are more traditional awards for defensive players.

Last year, winners included players like Carlos Correa, Paul Goldschmidt, Michael A. Taylor, and Aaron Judge.

This is the first time Trevino has won the award, and he really did deserve it. In his first year with the Yankees, Trevino proved that he was the best pitch framer in MLB. He was the best at getting strikes for his pitchers. No one else could do it as well.

Trevino led the league with 19.1 framing runs, and his defense behind the plate saved 21 runs. He was also great at calling games, talking to his pitchers, throwing out runners at the bases, and blocking pitches in the dirt.

Overall, Trevino helped the Yanks when he had a glove in his hand.

How do you rate Trevino as a top Yankees’ defensive player?
