NEW YORK — For six months, the New York Yankees lived on one channel. Tonight, it goes dark.
The YES Network carried the bulk of the Yankees‘ 93-68 regular season. Postseason rights belong to national partners. YES cannot air a pitch in October, and its app will not stream one.
The switch hits at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, when the Yankees host the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium.
For cord-cutters, the problem is bigger than one night. A Yankees run to the World Series would cross three TV partners, four channels and at least three streaming apps in about a month.
Some of it is free. Some costs close to $90 a month. One popular plan looks like it covers the games but does not.
Where the Yankees-Red Sox series airs
The Wild Card Series belongs to NBC. Every Yankees game in this round airs on NBC and streams on Peacock.

If the Yankees and Red Sox play the only Game 3 on Thursday, it airs at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. Otherwise, MLB sets Thursday’s times after Wednesday’s games.
Peacock requires a Premium plan, at $12.99 a month, or Premium Plus, at about $20. A current Walmart+ trial offer includes a month of Peacock for $1.
Every round of a Yankees run, network by network
The winner of the Yankees-Red Sox series faces the top-seeded Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS. That is where the TV map changes.

MLB spelled out the Division Series arrangement in its postseason schedule release.
“TNT Sports will simulcast the ALDS on TBS, truTV and HBO MAX,” MLB said.
MLB.TV is not a cable workaround, either.
“All Postseason games telecast on TNT Sports platforms, FOX and FS1 will be available to MLB.TV subscribers who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a participating pay TV provider,” MLB said.
Streaming services compared
Only some live TV streamers carry every Yankees channel.

DIRECTV offers a five-day free trial. Fubo also offers a free trial. Sling sells passes for $4.99 a day, $9.99 for three days and $14.99 for a week.
Fubo lacks TBS, so its subscribers would miss the ALDS and ALCS.
The antenna math nobody is running
The cheapest path through October starts with an indoor antenna, a one-time purchase. In the New York market, NBC airs on WNBC, Channel 4. FOX airs on WNYW, Channel 5. Both are free over the air.
That covers the Wild Card Series and World Series free. The ALDS and ALCS never touch broadcast TV.
For those two rounds, the lowest-cost option is HBO Max Standard at $18.49 a month. HBO Max spells out which plans include games.
“Live Sports is included with the Standard and Premium plans,” HBO Max said on its plans page.
That makes HBO Max Basic with Ads the trap. At $10.99, it looks like the bargain. It does not include live sports, so Yankees fans on that plan would see nothing from the ALDS.
An antenna plus one month of HBO Max Standard covers every possible Yankees game for $18.49. YouTube TV costs $82.99 for the same month, about four and a half times as much.
Where to watch every other MLB postseason team
The same split applies across the bracket. TNT Sports has the American League after the Wild Card round. FOX has the National League and the World Series.
