For Yankees fans, Black Friday deals might include more than just discounted gadgets—Jasson Dominguez, the “Martian,” could be the team’s most exciting value at just $750,000 in 2025. With his combination of youth, talent, and raw potential, Dominguez embodies the Yankees’ vision of blending affordability with a focus on developing homegrown talent.

Why the Yankees’ future star could cost less than a Black Friday TV

The Yankees have long emphasised building from within, and Jasson Dominguez is a prime example of how the team is securing its future without splurging on flashy free agents. Signed for just $5 million as a teenager in 2019, the switch-hitting outfielder has worked his way up through the minors, showcasing his blend of power and athleticism.

At just 21, Jasson Dominguez is poised to fill the Yankees’ left-field void following Alex Verdugo’s departure to free agency. Despite limited MLB experience, his ability to work the count, hit for power, and play multiple outfield positions makes him one of the brightest young prospects in the Bronx.

Securing the future for less

Promoting Jasson Dominguez and other young players such as Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells allows the Yankees to free up financial resources. Letting go of veterans like Verdugo and Gleyber Torres saves $22.9 million, giving the team flexibility to pursue extensions for stars like Juan Soto or bolster other areas of the roster.

Dominguez, still under pre-arbitration status, represents the perfect balance of talent and cost-efficiency. At $750K, his salary is a fraction of what veteran outfielders command, making him a key piece in the Yankees’ long-term strategy.

On the other hand, some names have been suggesting that Jasson Dominguez is already on the radar of rival teams, eager to snag a rising star. One notable proposal included a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals, where Jasson Dominguez’s name was floated in exchange for Nolan Arenado and Lars Nootbaar.

Yet, it seems the Yankees are making the ultimate Black Friday bargain by holding onto one of baseball’s most promising future prospects, keeping him firmly at home in the Bronx.

A learning curve with tremendous upside

On September 9, 2024, Yankees' Jasson Dominguez recorded his first hit of the season at Yankee Stadium in a game against the Royals.

While Jasson Dominguez’s 2024 stats were modest—hitting .179 with two home runs in 18 games—his patience at the plate stood out. A 16.4% walk rate signals his understanding of the strike zone, while his 28.4% strikeout rate highlights areas for improvement.

Jasson Dominguez might not cost as much as a Black Friday TV, but his value to the Yankees’ future is immeasurable. With his breakout season on the horizon, the Martian could redefine the term “bargain” in the Bronx. Fans have every reason to believe that 2025 will be the year Dominguez takes flight, ensuring the Yankees remain contenders for years to come.

I’m gonna say this again: It is my belief that Dominguez was never 100% healthy after coming back from his oblique injury in 2024

The Martian has been overhyped since 2020. He is injury prone, lost valuable developmental playing time in the minors because of Covid, and the Yanks have been waiting till next year now for 3 years with him.

If he does have the breakout year that people hope in 2025, he may well be very dissatisfied with his salary to the point it may affect his performance.

A lot of wishful thinking on his career so far.
