As the New York Yankees gear up for their long-awaited return to the World Series, much of the focus has turned to two key figures: manager Aaron Boone and slugger Giancarlo Stanton. Their leadership, discipline, and resilience have restored faith in a franchise that has weathered recent challenges, finally returning to the Fall Classic after a 15-year absence.

Giancarlo Stanton’s resurgence in the spotlight

On Sept 26, 2024, Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo home run that gave the New York Yankees an early 1-0 lead over the Baltimore Orioles.

On “The Mayor’s Office with Sean Casey” on Tuesday, Boone and Casey, the host and former Yankees hitting coach, discussed how Stanton is one of the best hitters the sport has produced.

“Obviously, Giancarlo, I am so grateful I got a chance to be with him last year and to coach him,” Casey said. “I have never seen a guy hit the ball harder than Big G, and especially when you have a guy like Judgy on your team, you are thinking, ‘Best player on the planet, no doubt, but hits the ball harder than anybody?’ I don’t know. I think Stanton hits harder, which is incredible.”

Despite facing boos, particularly during injury-riddled stretches of his Yankees career, Giancarlo Stanton has come roaring back this postseason, delivering one clutch performance after another. With 16 home runs in 36 postseason games, he now holds the record as the most efficient postseason home run hitter in baseball history. Stanton’s ability to deliver on the biggest stages has been crucial for the Yankees’ success, and it’s clear Boone’s faith in him has paid off. Stanton’s ALCS MVP performance serves as a testament to the trust and confidence Boone has placed in him.

Aaron Boone’s vision

Boone, who has been under intense scrutiny since taking over as manager in 2018, faced particularly difficult moments following the 2023 season when the Yankees failed to make the playoffs. Nevertheless, he demonstrated resilience, returning with a renewed strategy and making pivotal decisions that have driven the Yankees’ success this year. The acquisitions of Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Jazz Chisholm, as well as the decision to trust Luke Weaver as closer after Clay Holmes’ struggles, were all moves influenced by Boone’s leadership.

Boone has also shown a knack for adapting to the increasingly analytical nature of baseball, a skill recognized by both Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge. One of the significant changes Boone spearheaded was the hiring of Aaron Leanhardt, an MIT physicist, as the Yankees’ chief data analyst. Leanhardt has been instrumental in translating complex data into actionable insights for players. Boone’s ability to merge instinct with advanced statistics has been a hallmark of his tenure, a balance praised by Yankees legend Joe Torre: “You never want to give up on your instincts. That’s what got you here.”

With the World Series on the horizon, Boone has a chance to solidify his legacy, potentially leading the Yankees back to the pinnacle of the sport. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman praised Boone this week, calling him “an excellent coach” and expressing pride in the job he has done to guide the Yankees back to the big stage.

The World Series kicks off Friday at 8:08 p.m. on FOX. For live updates, follow along with Pinstripes Nation on X (formerly Twitter).
