The New York Yankees, known for their long-standing dominance in Major League Baseball, have recorded 25 games in franchise history where they’ve scored 20 or more runs — a staggering display of offensive firepower that few clubs can rival. That mark puts them among the top-tier franchises when it comes to historic scoring outbursts, underscoring their reputation as the “Bronx Bombers.”

The Yankees hit a highest of 25 runs against the Philadelphia Athletics on May 24, 1936.

Their most recent explosion came in a record-shattering performance that not only added to their 20-run game tally but also etched a new chapter into the team’s record books. On that night, the Yankees launched nine home runs, setting a new franchise record for most homers in a single game. The mark also tied for second-most in MLB history, trailing only the Toronto Blue Jays, who hit 10 on September 14, 1987.

The most home runs the Yankees have ever hit in a single game is nine, a franchise record set during a 20-run blowout against the Brewers on March 29, 2025.

Curiously, the Cincinnati Reds are the only other team to hit nine homers in a single game — a feat they accomplished on September 4, 1999. And in a poetic twist of fate, the first homer of that Reds outburst was hit by none other than Aaron Boone, now the Yankees’ manager. The full-circle moment added an extra layer of nostalgia to an already historic offensive display.

What do you think?
