You forgot one free agent that’s out there, Brendan Rodgers who was non-tendered by the Rockies. Or Alec Bohm of the Phillies via trade, especially since they are the odds on favorites right now to sign Alex Bregman.
He hit much worse outside of Coors Field. A definite downgrade offensively.
They said the same thing about DJ LeMahieu and Nolan Arenado. Age or injury had to catch up to both. I’m only looking for a one or two year deal for Rodgers
I know I have detractors who disagree with me… but… we should’ve been signing Gleyber Torres from the beginning. Cashman and Hal have sticks somewhere against him. Why? During the Winter Meetings, Gleyber is the #1 HOT prospect for 2nd base. We’d pass on that? Ok. Gleyber had a slow start last season but so did others. After the All-Star break, Gleyber came out swinging. He EARNED the #1 hitting sport in the lineup AND retained it all the way into Post Season. THAT says A LOT about the heart of this young man. He made some errors, BUT they didn’t keep us out of the Post Season. His Post Season stats were stellar… yeah, 1 error that cost 1 game to get out of control… but where was the rest of our offense? Asleep? Judge went silent. Soto didn’t play like he did during the regular season. Wells dried up. Volpe has slowed down. Verdugo hit but not enough… though his defense was STELLAR! What an arm! Jazz may have loads of personality and energy, but he isn’t Gleyber. Jazz needs to stay at 3rd and learn like A-Rod did. Keep Gleyber on 2nd and watch him this season. He’s a great fit with the Yankees and he plays well in NY. He’s a Gold Glove level player. We’ve got some money now that Soto is out of the picture. Add to the pitching and get a good 1st baseman… keep Gleyber on 2nd. Remove your sticks Hal and Cashman (who needs to go).
I think he really did himself no favors when he immediately said NO to 3B after getting Jazz. The fact is he is a bad baserunner, makes most of his errors in routine plays, and I think he wants at the minimum a 3 year contract.
Soto actually had a great postseason and won the final game against Cleveland. Unless something drastic changes Torres will never win a Gold Glove. Also Gleyber is on record that he loves playing for the Yankees and wants to stay with them until he retires. I’m a big fan of his. Jazz was defensively one of the top 3rd basemen after he came to the Yankees. He is so talented and will be fine if he stays at 3rd. Torres has proven he can perform in NY as well know NY is not easy to play in and not everyone can do it
He seems to be the best option available. He is amenable to a reasonable contract. I like the Torres of the last few months. Would he play second or third. Will the Yankees consider him or would going back to him be considered an embarrassment.
The contract length will be the biggest issue. Then the AAV, and he’d have to be agreeable to wherever they want him to play defensively. I can’t him agreeing on all 3, therefore, no deal is to be had.
