“Gleyber is, he actually had imaging done today. Went in for an MRI and it was clean. We’ll see how he is today about, you know, as far as availability off the bench. But I don’t expect it to be, I would expect him back in there this weekend.” Said Boone.
What happened with Gleyber Torres?

The concern about Gleyber Torres arose during a devastating 5-17 loss to the Baltimore Orioles last Thursday, when he had to leave the game due to tightness in his right groin. This incident occurred on a day when Torres had already hit a home run in the bottom of the second inning, showcasing his offensive potential.
After the game, Boone downplayed the severity of the injury, reassuring fans and the team by saying, “I don’t expect it to be anything major.”
Despite this confidence, Gleyber Torres had a challenging game even before his exit, marked by some shaky defense in the top of the fifth inning. His recent performance at the plate had also been lackluster, as he was 0-for-15 in his previous five games, resulting in a disappointing .629 OPS for the season.
Comparatively, only three regular second basemen have a lower OPS this season than Torres, who last year achieved an OPS of .800 in a bounce-back campaign. This was his best performance since being an All-Star in 2019. However, his defensive struggles have been notable, with 11 errors in 76 games, compared to 15 errors in 145 games last year.
The Yankees are set to face the Atlanta Braves, and Boone is hopeful that Torres will be available for the game on Friday, which begins at 7 pm Eastern Time. This would be a significant boost for the Yankees, who are looking to stabilize their infield and improve their performance as the season progresses.
