The New York Yankees might be planning to make a big impact in the upcoming offseason. They have already begun rebuilding the team by promoting young talents. This offseason they are likely to make more additions and a former MVP, who they missed in the trade deadline could be an important acquisition.

According to Bob Nightengale from USA Today, the Yankees could be interested in signing him during free agency. The player is Cody Bellinger, an outfielder from the Chicago Cubs. He was linked to the Yankees throughout July and even dropped a hint about his interest. As he is going to be a free agent this offseason, the team is most likely to try landing him.

Yankees rebuilding needs free-agent signings

It looks like the New York Yankees might need to start over and rethink their strategy to make it to the playoffs in 2024. Currently, they’re sitting in last place in the American League East with a not-so-good record of 62-68. Right now, things don’t seem very positive, and they’re on track to finish the 2023 season with a win-loss record below .500.

Cody Bellinger's father Clay won two World Series with the Yankees.

The Yankees have a lot of gaps in their lineup, and they’ll be looking to improve their starting pitching and find a strong hitter. A player who might be a good match for the team’s requirements is Cody Bellinger.

According to Nightengale, the Cubs, who were in a position to secure the final wild-card spot and were trailing the Milwaukee Brewers by five games in the NL Central, had intentions to compete to keep Cody Bellinger. Additionally, he pointed out that the Giants, who have been aiming to attract a prominent player to San Francisco for a while, were likely to propose the most significant contract. The possibility of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees also expressing interest was mentioned.

Before the 2023 MLB trade deadline, there were connections between New York and the Cubs star. However, the Cubs decided to keep the improving star player. Cody Bellinger has been a surprise this season for the Cubs and has a batting average of .321, an on-base percentage of .368, and a slugging percentage of .546. He has also hit 20 home runs and driven in 75 runs in 99 games this season.

Cody Bellinger could be a great addition to the Yankees, and it seems like they might be considering making a significant move in the upcoming offseason.

  1. Starting to get pretty depressed with reports cashman is safe for now and now a push to keep Ba-boone in 2024? Nothing is going to change unless the architect and his field generals of this disaster are removed. What makes anyone think he can now all of a sudden fix the line-up, improve player development and get the Yankees back to the top of the mountain when his has been failing for years?

If he was a Sherpa and I had to rely on him for me to conquer Mt. Everest…I would give it a go by myself. That’s how much faith I have in him. The game has passed him by and he has systematically over the last 14 years of failed trades, free agents signings, mis-handling of prospects, letting giradi walk after getting us to one game of the WS, and his damn analytical morons behind their computer screens have been slowly destroying the foundation of this once proud Franchise!

Now we are the laughing stock of MLB…I could go on and on but, it will fall upon deaf ears…all I know is if these reports are true, my fellow Yankee fans…nothing is going to change and we are in big trouble!!!
